ACCOUNTING

John Poth was promoted to audit partner at Haskell & White LLP in Irvine. He previously was audit principal at the firm. Haskell & White also promoted the following people to senior and management level positions in the tax department: Andy Chung to manager; Rose Luu to manager; June Chang to senior; Karen O’Campo to senior; and Ryan Woodhouse to senior. Haijin Wang and Tiffany Huynh were promoted to senior in the audit and business advisory services. Haroon Kahn was added as tax manager in the corporate group.

David Des Roches was named tax partner and Steven Shill was named partner in the healthcare advisory services practice at BDO Seidman LLP in Costa Mesa.

EDUCATION

The Art Institute of California-Orange County in Santa Ana promoted Melinda Lester to associate dean of academic affairs from academic department director of graphic design. Lester was an instructor at the school for two years.

GOVERNMENT

The Orange County Sanitation District named Jim Herberg director of operations and maintenance. The department manages two wastewater treatment plants, cogeneration power plants and the sewage collection system.

HEALTHCARE

Tami Vienna was hired as vice president of global accounting and reporting at Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp., a heart valve device maker. Vienna most recently was senior director of corporate financial planning, analysis and reporting for Irvine-based Gateway Inc.

Irvine-based Freedom Innovations Inc. hired Steve Sherman as key account manager. The company is a prosthetic supplier. Sherman most recently served as prosthetic marketing coordinator for Wright & Filippis Inc.

INSURANCE

Tri City Brokerage Inc. in Laguna Beach, a unit of San Francisco-based BISYS Commercial Insurance Services, named Michael Graves as vice president and broker at its Laguna Beach office. Graves formerly was vice president and director of client development at DLD Insurance Brokers in Irvine.

LAW

Costa Mesa’s Greenberg Traurig LLP named Franklin D. Ubell shareholder. Ubell is an intellectual property lawyer and brings experience in patent litigation matters.

NONPROFIT

Steve Cooke, partner at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, became chair of the Orange County chapter of the American Red Cross. Cooke replaces Joseph McCarthy.

Ilene Glassman was named vice president of development at Friendship Shelter Inc., a homeless rehabilitation program and emergency shelter in Laguna Beach.

The Orange County chapter of The Alzheimer’s Association named Elizabeth Kilpatrick development director at its Irvine headquarters. Kilpatrick most recently was director of development for the Cure Autism Now Foundation.

Diane Limbo and Andrew Messer were hired as director of health integration and director of development, respectively, at Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County. Limbo formerly served as nursing supervisor of Santa Ana community clinics at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Messer has served for more than two decades with the Boy Scouts of America in Orange County.

The Braille Institute Inc.’s Orange County Center in Anaheim named Dennis Hollow director of planned giving. Hollow formerly was director of communications and marketing at the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton.

Ryan Smith was added as Internet and database architect at Santa Ana-based Goodwill Industries of Orange County, California Inc. Smith recently served as interactive director at DGWB Advertising.

REAL ESTATE

Matthew Connelly was appointed as executive vice president of corporate strategy at GoApply Inc., a consumer Web site offering loan and insurance services. Connelly previously was senior vice president of Home Loan Center Inc. in Irvine.

Keystone Pacific Property Management Inc. hired Eugenia Lovric as community association manager at its Irvine headquarters.

Kelly Poole joined Irvine-based Empire Homes as vice president of sales and marketing. Prior to joining the company, Poole served as vice president of sales and marketing for Granite Homes in Irvine.

TECHNOLOGY

Costa Mesa-based QuantumSphere Inc., a maker of materials for the aerospace, defense, energy, biomedical and other markets, appointed Kimberly McGrath as director of fuel cell research.

Joshua Petras was promoted to international sales manager from sales engineer at San Clemente-based YesTech Inc., which provides automated optical and high-resolution x-ray inspection systems. Petras has been instrumental in the company’s expansion to the China, Singapore and United Kingdom markets, YesTech said.
