LAW

Neil H. Cogen was named dean of Whittier Law School, Costa Mesa. Previously, Cogen was professor of law at Quinnipiac College School of Law in Connecticut.

Latham & Watkins’ Orange County office hired Susan K. Meyer as counsel for its venture and technology group. Prior to joining the firm, Meyer, who practices intellectual property transactional law, was previously special counsel for Foley & Lardner.

Hollins, Schechter, Feinstein & Condas, Orange, added Eric N. Riezman as a partner. Previously, Riezman was a partner at Berger, Kahn, Shafton, Moss, Figler, Simon and Gladstone.


MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

Newport Beach-based Brower, Miller & Cole promoted Esther Rose to account supervisor. Rose will oversee account work for clients such as The Irvine Co., Edwards IMAX Theatres and Voit Development Co.

Anna Nelson joined Costa Mesa-based L & M; Marketing Inc. as an account executive. Nelson will oversee the agency’s real estate accounts and coordinate projects with American Honda Motor Corp.

Tara Fournier joined Morgan Marketing & Public Relations, Irvine, as account coordinator. Previously, Fournier was with the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace.


NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

Julie Eklund was appointed volunteer manager for the Orange County office of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Eklund comes to the organization from Golin/Harris International, where she was an account executive. Eklund will recruit and train volunteers.

The Southern California Society of Association Executives, Laguna Hills, named Debra Van Der Weide executive vice president. Van Der Weide served as a volunteer on the SCSAE board of directors and several committees. She also is a volunteer for several other nonprofit organizations.

Morris Meadow was appointed director of community relations for Leisure World Laguna Woods. Meadow will oversee public information, special projects, community services and the social services department.


REAL ESTATE

Bill McCarthy was named director of marketing for Costa Mesa-based Essex Realty Management Inc. Previously, McCarthy was with Jamba Juice, where he was director of business development.

Arden Realty Inc. promoted Marc Jones to first vice president for the firm’s Orange County region. Jones will oversee all facets of the firm’s regional portfolio performance in operations and leasing.

The California Association of Community Managers, Irvine, announced its 2001 board of directors and executive committee, including the following Orange County members: Debbie Evans of Lake Forest-based Professional Community Management Inc., chairman; Marla Browner Hemmel, BHE Management, Laguna Niguel, secretary; Lorraine Schwartz, Mission Viejo-based Merit Companies, director; William Sasser, Transpacific Management Service, Santa Ana, past chair; and Karen Conlon of Irvine; statewide president.

Insignia/ESG’s OC-based property services group announced the following promotions: Steve Claton, regional director for the industrial portfolio with Irvine Office Properties; Steve Core, general manager of the Irvine Office Properties portfolio; and Carol Olander, associate director of property management for the Orange County/San Diego general portfolio. In addition, the firm promoted Michael Bennett to managing director for property services in Orange and San Diego counties.


RETAIL

Terry Smith joined Balboa Dessert Co., Santa Ana, as vice president of wholesale distribution, focusing on Southern California accounts and restaurants. Smith comes to the firm from Seven Up/Royal Crown where he worked as area sales manager.


SECURITY

Fountain Valley-based JMG Security Systems hired Ted Willie as operations manager. The 31-year industry veteran will oversee installation, service and project management activities. Willie comes to the firm from Post Alarm where he was vice president of operations.


TECHNOLOGY

Sonnet Technologies, Irvine, named Darryl Hinshaw vice president of engineering. Prior to joining the firm, Hinshaw spent 10 years at Newer Technology.

Mindspeed Technologies, Newport Beach, appointed Wayne Nebsit senior vice president of operations and Simon Biddiscombe vice president and corporate controller. The 17-year industry veteran will oversee the company’s foundry operations, quality and supply chain management. Previously, Nebsit was vice president and director of worldwide external technology for Motorola. Prior to joining the firm, Biddiscombe was with Wyle Electronics, where he was senior vice president, CFO and COO.

Irvine-based Autobytel.com named Mark Ernst vice president, human resources. Ernst, who comes to the firm from a similar position at Freedom Communications, will focus on recruitment and retirement management for employees.

Chip Strosnider was named managing director for Red Sky’s Irvine and Los Angeles offices. Prior to joining the firm, Strosnider was with Zenius, where he was director of e-solutions.


TRANSPORTATION

Tim Irwin was promoted to vice president for travel products and services at the Automobile Club of Southern California. Irwin will be responsible for travel services offered by the Club and its AAA operations in Texas, New Mexico and Hawaii.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car promoted Mark Buenzil and Scott Sampley to rental managers. Buenzil and Sampley will be responsible for South Orange County. They will be located in the Huntington Beach administrative office.
