Pasadena Withdraws From NFL Contention

The Pasadena City Council on Monday night withdrew the Rose Bowl from contention to host a future National Football League team.
By a 4-2 vote, the council directed city staff to devise a draft renovation plan within 30 days for a “non-NFL alternative” use at the 83-year-old stadium that would include input from its two major tenants, the UCLA football team and the Tournament of Roses organizers.
The final plan is expected to be complete in four to six months.
The action leaves the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the city of Anaheim as the remaining two sites vying for a relocated or expansion NFL franchise.
Just before NFL owners met in Washington D.C. last month to discuss the possibility of narrowing the list of candidates down, the city of Carson bowed out of the race.
Pasadena officials want to transform the Rose Bowl into a profit generator so the city-owned Brookside Golf Course will not have to continue subsidizing the facility.
