Democrat Dunn Helps GOP Bid to Pull Plug on Davis Bailout Plan, An Insider Report
Call them the Odd Couple of the state Senate (and a bur under Gov. Gray Davis): OC Democrat trial lawyer Joe Dunn and conservative Republican Tom McClintock of Thousand Oaks were the only legislators to vote against the state’s $400 million in emergency power purchases, arguing it was unfair to bring taxpayers into the electricity mess. Likewise, both voted last week against the utility rescue bill that cleared the Senate but needed two tries to get the necessary two-thirds approval in the Assembly because of GOP opposition. Dunn was one of only two Democrats to vote nay. Further, the duo has also revived its bid to have the latest license plate-fee rollback incorporated into renewal notices mailed to motorists: SB 22 (Dunn-McClintock) would eliminate the cost of a separate rebate check from, ahem, the governor OC sent a host of politicians and donors to the Bush inaugural, including 22 members of OC’s New Majority. Party goers included George and Judie Argyros, Tom and Joyce Tucker and daughter Sara, Mark and Barbara Johnson, John and Merry Hagastadt, Zee Allred and Drago Gligic, and Sandi and Ron Simon, who played the piano at the Watergate Bar Former Assembly Speaker Curt Pringle has expanded his Irvine-based PR and government affairs biz into Sacramento, with an office manned by former legislative staffer Tim Taylor.
