Morey, of Surf Fame, Leaving OC

By Lisa Kovach

Tom Morey, a 30-year veteran in the surf industry, is relocating his surfboard manufacturing company to northern San Diego County.

Starwaves Surf Systems, which had been based in Capistrano Beach, plans to move to a 3,000-square-foot facility in Oceanside, where Morey will be producing his new surfboard, the YPH7 Swizzle.

Morey, who is well known as the inventor of the Boogie Board, is returning to San Diego County after 30 years.

In the 1970s, Morey sold his boogie boards out of a facility in Carlsbad, where he manufactured 1,000 boogie boards per day.
