Memo to Arte: Swap L.A. Gold For OC Platinum

What’s in a name? Probably not nearly what’s in prime OC real estate. Which is why the Insider thinks there could be a peaceful resolution to the Anaheim Angels controversy. If Arte Moreno’s instincts are correct, retagging his team the Los Angeles Angels is worth several million dollars a year, mostly in a better TV deal. But Anaheim’s name claim looks ironclad and the city is ready to go to court. Yet a showdown might not be inevitable, if Moreno is willing to consider the potential of the 140 city-owned acres surrounding Angel Stadium. The land’s (ahem) ballpark value: $3 million an acre. Anaheim wants to develop 40 acres as part of its ambitious Platinum Triangle plan; Moreno has parking rights on the other 100. Anaheim officials have drawn a hard line on the team name, but the Insider hears they’re also trying to sit down with billionaire Moreno to discuss development possibilities.
