Election

Last week’s national election results dispelled several myths.

First, that incumbency is all but inviolate. Second, all politics is local.

Third, voters do not trust Democrats when it comes to matters of national security.

And fourth, White House mastermind Karl Rove never makes mistakes.

The Democratic tsunami that crashed onto the East Coast and quickly headed West last week took many seasoned pundits by surprise.

Just a few short months ago, only 12 out of 435 House seats were rated as “toss-ups.”

It’s going to take the Orange County GOP a while to regroup. In the meantime, get ready for change. My guess is it’s going to last more than two years.

Great Tower?

I would like to commend all of the wonderful ideas unveiled with the release of Great Park master plan. The park will become a major asset to the Southern California region.

However, I think there’s one additional idea that would give this park international acclaim.

Rather than just having a helium balloon provide a view from high above, I would like to see some tall iconic structure similar to the Eiffel Tower or Space Needle.

It would allow more people to enjoy the views from above. It could also contain several revenue-generating features to finance its construction, for instance, an international marketplace at its base, a charge to ride a high-speed elevator to the top and a five-star restaurant at the top.

I know of at least one developer based in San Diego who has been trying to construct this type of structure.
