The Southern California Association of Non-Profit Housing presented its Advocate of the Year award posthumously to Lila Lieberthal, founder of Irvine’s Jamboree Housing Corp. Laura Archuleta, president of the organization, accepted the award. Jamboree Housing is a nonprofit providing affordable housing for low-income households.

Newport Beach-based Lawrence & Ponder Ideaworks earned top honors for statewide social marketing campaigns at the 10th annual National Health Information Awards, produced by the Health Information Resource Center. The advertising agency won for its California 5 a Day and AfterFX campaigns.

Epic Brand Group Inc., a healthcare advertising agency, received an Award of Excellence from New York-based The RX Club. The Aliso Viejo-based agency received the honor for a series of promotional materials it created for Fullerton-based Beckman Coulter Inc., a maker of medical diagnostic and research products.

The Seniors Housing Council of Southern California presented the 2003 Senior Achievement and General Excellence Award to the city of Brea. The award is the council’s highest honor and is given for accomplishments in service of seniors, including housing. It is the first time the award is being presented to a public entity, as opposed to a housing industry executive.

CoreNet Global’s Executive Development Program named Eugene F. Page III, senior managing director at the Seal Beach office of real estate brokerage and property manager Charles Dunn Co. Page teaches a course for CoreNet, which is an educational group for corporate real estate professionals.

The Roxburgh Agency of Costa Mesa, which specializes in residential real estate marketing, received two Elan awards from the Sales and Marketing Council of the Building Industry Association in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. They were presented for the agency’s work for residential builder MBK Homes in Irvine.

Shady Canyon Golf Club received designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, which is endorsed by the United States Golf Association, presents this recognition to golf courses dedicated to environmental conservation. Shady Canyon is the 29th golf course in the state to receive the honor.

Sheila Shiebler, executive vice president of program operations for the YMCA of Orange County, was named Outstanding Child Care Administrator by the national office of the YMCA. The criteria for the award include community involvement, connection to the broader YMCA movement and collaboration with other childcare professionals.

David B. Salkowitz, a principal with Newport Beach-based architectural design company Lifescapes International Inc., received his California landscape architecture licensure. Salkowitz will continue to act as senior project manager for a variety of resorts, casinos and mixed-use residential developments nationwide.

The Hilton Anaheim was voted a 2004 Platinum Choice Award winner by Smart Meetings magazine. Criteria considered included overall services, meeting facilities, amenities and food and beverage.

Cathi Jooyan, senior vice president of California Bank & Trust in Huntington Beach, was named California’s Financial Services Advocate for 2003 by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The Orange County Red Cross named Pauline Abbott, director of the Institute of Gerontology at California State University, Fullerton, its Woman of the Year in Education. Abbott was presented with a Clara Barton Spectrum award for her efforts at developing programs with medical research schools to bring the latest research on aging to the community, and bringing together students and elders for special projects.

Restaurateur Zov Karamardian was named Woman Business Owner of the Year by the National Association of Woman Business Owners. Karamardian owns and operates Zov’s Bistro in Tustin.

Professional Builder magazine named John Laing Homes, part of Newport Beach-based WL Homes LLC, its 2004 Builder of the Year. The award recognizes excellence in three areas: overall excellence, innovation and reputation.

The Collaborative West, a San Clemente-based landscape architecture company, received three national sales and marketing awards for outstanding achievements in the homebuilding industry from the National Association of Homebuilders. The awards honor the nation’s best advertising, brochures, graphics, interior merchandising, signage, sales office, and landscape and product design.

Linda Vandercook, a founding partner and chairman of Newport Beach-based Keystone Pacific Property Management Inc., was awarded the May Russell Award by the Orange County chapter of the Community Associations Institute. The institute, which is a nonprofit serving community associations, presents the award to people who have been instrumental in the success of their organizations.
