Sheryne Liang of Tustin, Bob Bender of Newport Coast, Darlene Hamilton of Costa Mesa and Christy Stoeckel of Costa Mesa were honored as Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County.
Greenberg Traurig LLP’s Ehab Samuel and Eudeen Chang were selected as rising stars by Southern California Super Lawyers magazine. Samuel is an intellectual property associate. Chang is a litigation associate at the law firm’s Irvine office.
Warren Nelson, partner at Fisher & Phillips LLP’s Irvine office, was named as one of the Labor Relations Institute’s top 100 labor attorneys in the U.S.
Angels Baseball Foundation and the Orange County Office of Education awarded five eighth-grade students with $4,000 scholarships, plus accrued interest upon acceptance to a four-year college. These scholarships were given based on academic achievement, financial need and enrollment in the college preparatory program Avid. Those honored were Manuela Herrera of South Junior High School in Anaheim, Giahan Nguyen of Donald S. Jordan Intermediate School in Garden Grove, Loi Nguyen of Stacey/Clegg Middle School in Huntington Beach, Adriana Martinez of Newhart Middle School in Mission Viejo and Jesus Martinez of Shorecliffs Middle School in San Clemente.
Balboa Bay Club & Resort concierge Patrick Hynes was inducted in to the Les Clefs d’Or hotel concierge society. Hynes is one of five concierges in Orange County to earn the distinction this year. Members are considered providers of extraordinary service.
CalOptima awarded a Mary K. Dewane Safety Net Award to Share Our Selves, a Costa Mesa nonprofit that provides free medical, social and other forms of assistance to those in need. The award recognizes the group’s healthcare services.
Lauren Brooks was named Irvine Unified School District’s parent volunteer of the year. She created a Sacramento advocacy trip that allows students from Irvine high schools to represent Irvine and advocate for education causes in state government. Volunteer of the year awards for specific grades were given to Nancy Turner of Alderwood Elementary, Ellen Bell of South Lake Middle School and Kathy Nelson of Irvine High School.
