Five Orange County chief executives received Advocate of the Year awards by the University of California, Irvine’s Chief Executive Round-table. Recipients were:

Henry Samueli, Irvine-based Broadcom Corp.’s cofounder, chairman and chief technical officer.

Steven Joe, president and chief executive of D-Link North America in Fountain Valley, a unit of Taiwan’s D-Link Corp.

Michael A. Mussallem, chairman and chief executive of Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp.

David E. I. Pyott, chairman and chief executive of Irvine-based Allergan Inc.

Ted Smith, founder and retired chairman and chief executive of Costa Mesa-based FileNet Corp.

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Orange County, a nonprofit that works to protect the rights of abused children, honored Pacific Investment Management Co. as Corporate Honoree for Pimco’s support during the past years. Pimco Chief Operating Officer Dick Weil has helped recruit board members, generate awareness of the group and helped provide holiday gifts for abused children.

Andrew S. Hollins, senior partner at Santa Ana-based Hollins Schechter LLP, was elected 2005 Orange County Trial Lawyer of the Year by the American Board of Trial Advocates. He received the award for his efforts toward ethical and technical standards of practice in the field.

The Southern Calif-ornia chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects honored The Irvine Company with the 2005 Quality of Life Design Award for Public Stewardship. The company was recognized for its contributions to improving the quality of life in Southern California.

Attorneys Randall L. Erickson and Kimberly Chen Nobles from the Irvine office of Crowell & Moring LLP, a Washington, D.C.-based law firm, were ranked as 2006 Southern California Super Lawyers by Los Angeles Magazine and Law & Politics magazine. Erickson was recognized for construction litigation and Chen Nobles for intellectual property law.

Aliso Viejo-based Fluor Corp. project manager Tulanda D. Brown was named a 2006 Black Engineer of the Year at the 20th Annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards ceremony. Brown is a nuclear and systems safety engineer with 15 years of experience at various Department of Energy facilities.

Claire Lane Chet, assistant professor of American Studies at California State University, Fullerton, was one of five finalists for the American Studies Association’s Ralph Henry Gabriel Dissertation Prize for 2005.

Don Schoendorfer was nominated by Reader’s Digest for the 2005 Hero of the Year honor. He is president and founder of Costa Mesa-based Free Wheelchair Mission and has helped the group double its funding in the past year.

The Orange County affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation honored Kathy Pearson of Laguna Niguel with the Volunteer of the Year award. Costa Mesa residents Megan Stirrat and Cindy Thompsen received Cameo Awards. The awards are Komen’s highest honors and highlight outstanding volunteerism, leadership and involvement.

The Children and Families Commission gave Assemblywoman Lynn Daucher, R-Brea, a certificate of appreciation for her work on children’s issues.

The Building Industry Association, OC chapter, presented Jo-Anne Redwood of Capstone Studios REM, a real estate marketing company in Irvine and part of Capstone Studios Inc., with an Associate of the Year award.
