Jeffrey Golden received the Peter M. Elliott Award from the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum. Golden is a founding partner of Costa Mesa-based law firm Weiland, Golden, Smiley, Wang Ekvall & Strok LLP. Golden clerked for award namesake Judge Elliott during his final year on the bench. Golden was an expert witness for the U.S. Attorney’s Office and now is a bankruptcy trustee of the Central District of California, Los Angeles division, and state court receiver.
Several partners at Rutan & Tucker LLP in Costa Mesa were named Super Lawyers for Southern California by Law & Politics magazine: Robert Braun, Richard Curnutt, Milford Dahl Jr., Michael Hornak, John B. Hurbut Jr., Ernest Klatte, Joel Kuperberg, David Larsen, Paul Marx and Richard Montevideo.
Randall L. Erickson, co-administrative partner of Crowell & Moring LLP’s Irvine office, was named to the list of Super Lawyers for Southern California by Law & Politics magazine. This is Erickson’s third year of being selected as a Super Lawyer. Erickson is a construction litigator and arbitrator.
Irvine-based Sanuk received an award for Footwear Item of the Year 2007. Trade publication Footwear Plus recognized Sanuk for its creation of Sidewalk Surfers. Sanuk credits the shoe line for what it called triple-digit growth in the past two years.
Nick Yocca received the first ever Nick Yocca Award of Distinction and Merit from the Orange County chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth. Yocca is cofounder of Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth in Newport Beach. He was honored for his contributions and dedication in support of the Association for Corporate Growth, a group for directors and corporate governance issues. College football broadcast legend Terry Bowden was on hand to address attendees at the association’s Feb. 27 event.
The Irvine Chamber of Commerce won a first-place ranking and an outstanding achievement award for its monthly Business Connection publication. The chamber received a Special Merit Award for its 2007-2008 strategic business plan. The Western Association of Chamber Executives sponsors the awards. This is the fourth-straight first place ranking for the Business Connection publication.
The Roxburgh Agency in Costa Mesa won four Gold Awards at the National Sales and Marketing Awards Competition. Roxburgh’s ad for SeaCrest at Crystal Cove was named Best Color Ad for a Single Project. The agency also was commended for It’s A Dog’s Life promotion, named Best Community Service Project or Promotion.
Lake Forest-based Power Cleaners was named one of America’s Best Cleaners for 2008. Forty dry cleaners were certified in the U.S. this year.
Coastline Community College was honored with the Progress in Diversity Award. The Association of California Community College Administrators recognized Coastline for offering educational programs that promote diversity. Most notable is the development of programs for members of the military and the Acquired Brain Injury Program.
Terri Stiles earned certification as a Professional in Human Resources. Stiles is director of human resources for Marway Power Solutions in Irvine.
Irvine resident Yachiyo Beck was invited to show her artwork at the American Watercolor Society Exhibition. Signature members can add the AWS designation to their art. Memberships are awarded only after three art pieces have juried in the exhibition.
Newport Beach’s Salon L was named one of the 200 fastest-growing salons in North America by Salon Today magazine. The magazine recognized salons with high increases in sales. Applicants for the list submitted financial documentation and had yearly sales of at least $250,000.
The Radio Television News Association of Southern California awarded Peter Martinez the Jim Zaillian Memorial Scholarship. The California State University, Fullerton, student produced a student-run news magazine show and held internship positions at KABC and KCET. He is current chair of the College of Communications InterClub Council.
Katherine Contreras received an award for her service to the International Right of Way Association. The Sustained Service Award recognizes members who have made an ongoing contribution to the organization. She is currently secretary for her chapter.
