Fuscoe Engineering Inc. won a 2008 CELSOC Engineering Excellence Award of Merit for its Laguna Beach Bluebird Canyon Landslide Reconstruction Project. The project made national news in 2005 when a massive landslide destroyed 12 homes. CELSOC is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the consulting engineering and land surveying professions.

Pacific Advanced Civil Engineering Inc. was named the Seventh Best Civil Engineering Firm To Work For in 2007 by CE News. The company also garnered the Third Best Small Civil Engineering Firm To Work For. This is the third year in a row that Pacific Advanced Civil Engineering was ranked within the top five small companies and in the top 10 overall.

The California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness honored David Volz Design Landscape Architects Inc. and the Orange County Fire Authority with 2007 Fit Business Awards. David Volz received the gold trophy and the Fire Authority was given the silver. Both employers were recognized for their commitment to the health and wellness of its workers.

The Public Relations Society of America honored its OC chapter with the 2007 PRSA Chapter Diversity Award for its outstanding efforts in support of diversity. The OC chapter received a certificate of achievement and was honored for its diversity-focused regional conference.

Manu Shah of M S International Inc. was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 in the distribution, manufacturing and security category. Shah started the business in his basement and grew it into a leading distributor of natural stone in North America. The awards recognize leaders and visionaries who demonstrate innovation, financial success and personal commitment.

Irvine-based Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. received the 2007 InfoWorld 100 award for its newly implemented business intelligence system. Awards from IDG InfoWorld honor projects that demonstrate creative use of technologies to further business goals.

Entrepreneur.com columnist Gail Goodman recently was given the 2007 Stevie Award for Women in Business. She received the honor for her accomplishments as chief executive of Constant Contact. The company provides e-mail marketing for small businesses, associations and nonprofits. Additionally, Goodman writes a monthly e-mail marketing column.

Sen. Tom Harman was awarded the Civil Justice Leadership Award from the Civil Justice Association of California for his work in the 2006-2007 legislative session. The association is a nonprofit coalition that opposes excessive California government spending. During the legislative session, Harman authored legislation to rein in runaway punitive damage awards.

Irvine-based EdgeTech Consulting Inc. was recognized in the inaugural list of Inc. Magazine’s 5,000 fastest growing private companies in the U.S. EdgeTech is a global information technology consulting and staffing firm. Newport Beach-based Systems Paving Inc. also was named to the list. The ranking was done using percentage revenue growth from 2003-06.

Conexis, a Word & Brown Co. was honored as one of 18 organizations at the 2007 Global Six Sigma Awards. The awards are presented to companies that deliver organizational achievements through the application of Six Sigma methodologies. Conexis provides benefits solutions to more than 20,000 clients nationwide.

The OC Bar Foundation presented its Sammy award to Garden Grove resident Michael Pursell. He helped design many of the law-related programs for youth and families that are provided by the foundation. Pursell is a past OC Bar Association president, editor of the OC Bar Journal and 1999 winner of the Franklin G. West award.

The OC Community Foundation named four members to its philanthropy Hall of Fame. Dr. Edward and Helen Shanbrom of Santa Ana were honored with the Legacy Award. Randall Bone of Newport Beach was given the Initiative Award recognizing innovative giving. The Impact Award went to the Pimco Foundation, the charitable arm of Newport Beach’s Pacific Investment Management Co., for its philanthropic efforts to transform the community.

The city of Rancho Santa Margarita was identified as one of the safest communities in OC with a population under 100,000. The ranking was set forth in the FBI 2006 Uniform Crime Report.
