Philanthropists Honored With Community Foundation Award
Bill and Vicki Booth,daughter of Peter Ueberroth,Paul and Scottia Evans and the late Dan McCoy were presented with the Excellence in Philanthropy Award, the highest honored bestowed by the Orange County Community Foundation. The recipients’ names will be permanently inscribed on the foundation’s Philanthropy Hall of Fame.

Karchers Get Second Star on Orange County’s Walk of Stars
Carl and Margaret Karcher received a second star on the Anaheim/Orange County Walk of Stars. The Karchers, founders of Carl Karcher Enterprises and Carl’s Jr. restaurant chain, received the star in recognition of their entrepreneurial and philanthropic ventures throughout Anaheim and Orange County. Margaret Karcher died last year. The star is placed near Walt Disney’s on Harbor Boulevard. The Walk of Stars honors visionary leaders, entertainers and entrepreneurs who have made a positive national and international impact on the region.

Nine attorneys from Snell & Wilmer LLP in Costa Mesa were named Southern California Super Lawyers for 2006. The recognition is awarded to 5% of Southern California’s licensed attorneys. The following attorneys from the firm’s Orange County office were recognized: William O’Hare, Frank Cronin, Ellen Darling, Richard Derevan, Albin Gess, Robert “Hoot” Gibson, Steven Graham, Joseph Price and James Scheinkman.
UC Irvine professors Alison Brysk and Gene Tsudik were awarded Fulbright Scholar grants during the 2006-07 academic year. Brysk is a political science professor in the School of Social Sciences and will be the visiting chair in global governance at the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo, Ontario. Tsudik is a professor of computer science and the associate dean for research and graduate studies in the Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences and will be going to the University of Rome to conduct research on computer and network privacy.
On Wall Street, a SourceMedia and In-vestCorp publication, named Mark Ansara of Crowell, Weedon & Co. in Newport Beach, one of the nation’s top retail advisers under age 40. The publication made its selection by choosing the largest asset gatherers from wirehouses and full-service regional firms.
Visuart, a graphic communications and design firm in Irvine, captured two awards from the Orange County Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America during the 31st annual Protos awards. The Protos honor top local public relations and creative professionals, programs and students in categories such as community outreach, multicultural and media relations programs and multimedia presentations.
The Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors of California selected RBF Consulting in Irvine for the second consecutive year as a recipient of the 2006 Professional Development Award. The award recognizes firms for their continuing education programs focused on employee’s professional growth.
Mission San Juan Capistrano recognized its staff members and volunteers for their outstanding service at the 2007 Employee Volunteer Recognition Luncheon. Lawrence Werlin of Coastal Fertility Medical Center in Irvine, was named one of OC’s Physicians of Excellence in the field of obstetrics and gy-necology. The annual award honors top physicians in their fields as determined by an evaluation by peer physicians and members of the medical community.
Dennis Potts of Staubach Co.’s Irvine office was awarded CoreNet Global’s Southern California Chapter 2006 Pres-ident’s Award at the national summit in Orlando. This honor went to the chapter that displayed the best ability to recruit members.
The Palm Court restaurant at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach earned one of the highest ratings in the 2007 Zagat Survey. The restaurant recently transformed its decor and menu and scored 25 out of 30 for its cuisine.
AeA Orange County in Newport Beach honored California Senate Republican leader, Dick Ackerman, with its OC High-Tech Legislator of the Year award. Ackerman was recognized for his leadership on issues important to the tech industry during his tenure in the state Legislature. AeA is a trade group representing all segments of the technology industry.
California Pools in Anaheim Hills was awarded a silver medal at the Association of Pool and Spa Professional’s 2006 Inter-national Awards of Excellence. The award is the only international awards program recognizing superior achievement in the design, building and installation of residential and commercial pools, spas, hot tubs and water features.
Engineering News-Record, an industry publication, selected Mike Crawford, chief executive of Santa Ana-based Sukut Con-struction Inc., as one of the top 25 newsmakers for 2006. The honor recognizes Crawford for innovations and achievements that serve the best interest of the construction industry as a whole. Sukut Construction is a mass excavation and grading contractor.
Accounting Today magazine named Laguna Hills-based Blytheco Inc. 2006 Technology Pacesetter. The publication’s annual list is determined by a survey of top firms nominated by peers and software publishers. The nominees on the list are top sales producers and role model businesses within the software industry.
Irvine artist Georgeana Ireland was selected by Los Angeles Cultural Affairs to participate in the Los Angeles World Art program at Los Angeles Airport. Ireland is a national award-winning artist most known for her abstract landscapes and her flamboyant painting style.
The graphics department of Newport Beach-based Ambassadors LLC won the International Academy of Visual Arts 2006 Silver Davey Award for the Isuzu Affair to Remember entry. The Davey Awards are judged and overseen by the International Academy of Visual Arts, which is an invitation member-based organization of leading professionals from various disciplines of the visual arts.
