SBA Honors Business

Stacy Henderson’s move to stay at home with her kids turned into an award-winning business for the Huntington Beach resident.

Henderson and husband Richard are publishers and owners of Huntington Beach-based Home Business Magazine. The two recently were named California home-based business advocates of the year by the Santa Ana district office of the Small Business Administration.

Henderson began working on her magazine in 1994. The following year, Richard Henderson left his job at Fluor Corp.’s Fluor Daniel unit to join her full time.

The bimonthly magazine, which is sold at newsstands and by subscription, has grown circulation from 1,595 copies in 1994 to more than 80,000 today.

Readers typically are home-based business owners, home office workers and telecommuters who check the magazine for articles relating to the starting and expanding of home businesses. The couple started a Web site, homebusinessmag.com, in 1996.

The Hendersons also support nationwide home business seminars, conferences and expositions. They are set to be honored at the SBA’s Small Business Award Luncheon on Thursday at the Irvine Marriott.
