UC Irvine Extension’s Facilities Management Program earned International Facilities Management Association recognition. It was one of four certificate programs nationwide to earn the status.

The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana received accreditation by the American Association of Museums. It’s the only museum in OC to receive this nod. The Bowers will go through the accreditation process again in 2012.

The Orange County Chapter of the California Restaurant Association named Russ Bendel, president of Mimi’s Cafe in Tustin, 2004 Restaurateur of the Year. Mimi’s is a unit of Columbus, Ohio’s Bob Evans Farms Inc. Bendel also serves on the boards of the California Restaurant Association and the Culinary School for the Arts Institute of Los Angeles.

The Southern California Association of Nonprofit Housing named Irvine-based Jamboree Housing Corp. Developer of the Year. Jamboree is a nonprofit that develops, buys, renovates and manages affordable rental and ownership housing for lower-income families and seniors in California.

Lawrence B. Werlin, founder and director of Coastal Fertility Medical Center in Irvine and Aliso Viejo, was named one of OC’s Physicians of Excellence for obstetrics and gynecology. The annual award is presented by the Orange County Medical Association and Orange Coast magazine.

Irvine-based RBF Consulting received a Transportation Planning Excellence Award for the Taft and Oceanlake District Re-

development Plans in Lincoln, Oregon. The award was given by the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration and American Planning Association.

Richard Hoffman, director of information technology at Hyundai Motor America in Fountain Valley, was named one of Computerworld magazine’s Premier 100 IT leaders for 2005.

The American Institute of Architects California Council elected Jeff Gill vice president of regulation and practice. Gill has held several positions at the institute in the past few years. He is managing principal of MCG Architecture’s Irvine office.

The Orange County Business Committee for the Arts honored Irvine-based accounting firm Haskell & White LLP with a Distinguished Achievement Award at its 23rd Annual Business in the Arts Awards event.

Peter M. Callahan, cofounder of the Tustin law firm Callahan, McCune & Willis APLC, received the St. Thomas More Society of Orange County Award as the 2004 Lawyer of the Year. Thomas H. Schulte, a court commissioner of the Orange County Superior Court, also was honored by the society as Jurist of the Year.

Scott E. Summers, senior vice president of Lake Forest-based commercial builder ARB Inc., was named president for the International Pipeline and Offshore Contractors Association. Summers also heads the U.S. Pipe Line Contractors Association, which he was elected president of in 2001.

Johanna Bracken, president of Rauxa Direct, a marketing agency in Costa Mesa, received the Philanthropist of the Year award from the Greater Long Beach Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Orange County’s United Way recognized Julia Wilkinson and Jo Ellen Madden as Employee Campaign Managers of the Year for 2003-2004. Both are with Lake Forest-based Professional Community Management,Wilkinson as an executive assistant and Madden as its employee programs and training representative.

Michael Roessler, director of the Orange County Small Business Development Center, a program of Rancho Santiago Community College District, was named a 2004 State Star by the national Association of Small Business Development Centers.

Preston, Gates & Ellis LLP partner Louis “Chip” Cullman in Irvine was elected to board of The Library Foundation of Los Angeles for a three-year term. Cullman practices intellectual property law and provides counsel in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemistry and medical device industries.
