The Project Management Institute Inc., Orange County chapter, presented its 2005 Project of the Year Award to Newport Beach’s Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian for its Sue and Bill Gross Women’s Pavilion. The project was selected for staying within budget, finishing two months ahead of schedule, doing construction without interrupting existing services and adherence to plan. The project team included Hoag’s facilities design and construction, Taylor and Associates Architects, Jacobs Facilities Inc. and McCarthy Building Cos.

Irvine-based MTI Technology Corp., which resells data storage products from investor EMC Corp., was ranked No. 175 in the 12th annual VARBusiness 500 ranking. The listing is a compilation of the top 500 companies that are the leading revenue producers for information technology services and products. The company was ranked based on its 2005 revenue of $132.6 million.

Orange County High School of the Arts founder and Executive Director Ralph Opacic received an Outstanding Contrib-ution to Education Award by the Orange County Department of Education. The awards program recognizes the contributions of individuals and groups whose efforts have impacted the education of Orange County students.

The University of California, Irvine, Alumni Association honored Steven Joe, president and chief executive of D-Link Corp., with the Lauds and Laurels award. D-Link makes routers and equipment to connect devices via a wireless network. Joe attended UC Irvine’s Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences. He was chosen for his involvement with the school’s Leadership Council and the university’s Chief Exec-utive Roundtable. The award is the highest given to alumni.

California State University, Fullerton, graduate student T.J. Buretta received the Kenneth L. Goodhue-McWilliams Award for Outstanding Community Service in the Health Professions. The award is named for an emeritus professor of zoology and includes $1,000. Buretta was recognized for his volunteer work with LIGA: Flying Doctors of Mercy, Camp Ronald McDonald, Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and two local hospices.

Anthony Codianni, director of education and development for Irvine-based Toshiba America Business Solutions Inc., won an International Stevie Award in the Best Sales Trainer category. The awards program recognized Codianni for his reworking and execution of the Special Weekly Acquisition Training program geared toward Spanish speakers, which is used by Latin American office equipment dealers that Toshiba America Business recently acquired.

The Sales and Marketing Council of Southern California named Karyl Gately, past president of the council, as Associate of the Year for 2005 at the Building Industry Association’s Mark-eting and Merchandis-ing Excellence Awards. The honor recognizes Gately’s contributions to the council.
