ABC7 Eyewitness News honored three physicians from Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Beach at its annual “Excellence in Health Care Awards.” News anchors David Ono and Michelle Tuzee gave awards to pulmonologist David Law, cardio-thoracic surgeon David Perkowski and physician leader James Lenthall. The event was held at Disneyland’s Grand Californian Hotel.
Project Wipeout, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach’s beach safety program, honored Mark Klosterman with the Project Wipeout Excellence in Lifeguarding Award. Klosterman is chief of marine safety for the city of Laguna Beach and has been a lifeguard in Laguna Beach since 1974. The award was presented to him at Hoag’s 24th Annual Lifeguard Seminar. Recipients demonstrate excellence in lifeguarding and community involvement.
California State University, Fullerton, Chicana and Chicano Studies Department chair Isaac Cardenas was honored with the California Rural Assistance League’s 2003 Educator Award. The league is a nonprofit organization advocating social justice for farm workers and rural low-income families throughout California. Cardenas has chaired the Chicana and Chicano Studies Department at Cal State Fullerton for 26 years.
Shady Canyon, a private residential and golf development in Irvine, was given The Gold Nugget Grand Award for Residential Master Plan Community. Shady Canyon won the award out of 630 competing communities. Gold Nugget awards, which are given at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference, distinguish recipients with creative achievements in architectural design and land-use planning. Shady Canyon is being developed by Irvine Community Development Company, a subsidiary of Newport Beach-based The Irvine Company.
Lake Forest-based InSight Health Services Corp. was named the winner in the large private company category at the eighth annual Ethics in America Awards. The Passkeys Foundation, a nonprofit organization fostering education for children, youth and adults, established the Ethics in America Awards in 1996. InSight received the award for its companywide code of ethical conduct program, which includes employee guidelines that ensure ethical practices throughout the organization.
The Boy Scouts of America, Orange County Council named Parker Kennedy the winner of the Distinguished Citizen Award. Kennedy received the award for his generosity and leadership in the Boy Scouts program in Orange County. Kennedy is president of Santa Ana-based First American Corp. and Boy Scouts board member since 1990.
Lawrence & Ponder IdeaWorks earned six Platinum Best of Show Awards and two Gold Awards at the 2003 Aurora Awards. The Aurora Awards recognize excellence in international film, video and broadcast.
