Jim Jannard, colorful founder of Oakley Inc., is stepping back from the company.
Foothill Ranch-based Oakley said Tuesday that Jannard will step down Oct. 10 as chief executive. He’ll continue as chairman of the sunglasses maker.
Scott Olivet was named to take over as Oakley’s chief executive. He also was named a director.
Olivet has worked for Nike Inc. as vice president, Nike subsidiaries and new business development, since 2001. He headed Nike units including Cole Haan, Converse, Hurley, Starter and Bauer-Nike Hockey.
Prior to Nike, Olivet was the Gap Inc.’s senior vice president of real estate, store design and construction.
Jannard founded Oakley in 1975. He built the company into an iconic sunglasses business with sales of $615 million for the 12 months through June 30.
The reclusive Jannard was born in Los Angeles in 1949. He lives on Spieden Island, Wash.
