Costa Mesa-based Irvine Sensors Corp. said Tuesday its contract to develop a handheld night viewer grew by $1.2 million.
The company already won a $1.3 million contract in September to develop its Personal Miniature Thermal Viewer.
The thermal viewer allows a person to see in total darkness, smoke or fog.
Irvine Sensors said it has produced an initial version of the viewer “for use in the global war on terrorism” in December, the company said in a release.
The company plans to use the additional dollars to improve the viewer’s resolution; decrease its size, weight and power requirements; and expand the range of temperatures it works in.
Irvine Sensors makes stacked chip assemblies, miniature cameras and night-vision goggles among other gear.
