Lake Forest-based disk drive maker Western Digital Corp. saw profits more than double for the recently ended quarter, while Costa Mesa networking gear maker Emulex Corp. posted 15% higher net income.
Western Digital reported profits of $68.8 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, up 126% from a year earlier and higher than expectations.
The company said added sales of drives for computers and digital video recorders drove the profit gain.
Sales were up 21% to $1 billion, beating forecasts of $989.6 million.
Emulex, which makes electronics for linking computers on data storage networks, reported net income of $16.4 million for the quarter ended Oct. 2. Excluding one-time items, Emulex reported $24.3 million in profits for the period.
Revenue was up 43% to $104.4 million but below Wall Street expectations of $108.6 million.
