Housing Steel Metal Maker Bought

Huntington Beach-based Morgan Sheet Metal Inc., which supplies steel panels to homebuilders, has been acquired by building products company MiTek Inc. based near St. Louis.

Terms weren’t disclosed. Hardy Frames Inc., a MiTek subsidiary since 2001, acquired Morgan Sheet Metal, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

Morgan Sheet Metal buys steel and turns it into large panels used by homebuilders such as Britain’s Taylor Woodrow PLC, Walnut-based J.F. Shea Co. and Dallas-based Centex Corp.

In 2004, Morgan moved into a new headquarters it had built by Burke Real Estate Group Inc. on former Boeing Co. land.

David Morgan founded the sheet metal company in 1965 in Gardena. In 1985 he sold it to his son, Mark, who moved operations to Long Beach, then to Garden Grove and later to Huntington Beach.
