Homebuilders continue to feel the sting of a slower market here.
They sold 197 new homes in January, a 24% decline from a year ago and the slowest January for builders since 1993, La Jolla-based market tracker DataQuick Information Systems said Thursday.
The median sales price for all houses and condominiums sold in January was $534,000, down 3% from December’s record of $551,000.
Last month’s median still was up 18.7% from January 2004.
Homebuilders aren’t alone. Real estate agents and those looking to sell their homes also got a taste of the slower market as sales of new and existing homes dipped 4.9% to 2,903 units last month.
Builders still are making nice profits here. The median new home sale price was up 45% in January from a year earlier to $734,500.
Condos also got a boost to $393,000, up 21% from a year ago.
