The Allergan Foundation gave $2 million to the University of California, Irvine, to advance eye research and treatment. The foundation is Irvine-based Allergan Inc.’s philanthropic arm. Allergan’s donation is set to help UC Irvine do clinical eye research and develop programs and technologies.

Rick Muth, president of Orco Block Co. in Stanton and a founding member of the Family Business Council at California State University, Fullerton, gave the university’s College of Business and Economics $500,000 for the Rick Muth Family Chair in Family Business. The gift is part of a $1.5 million campaign for Cal State Fullerton’s first endowed chair.

The Mind Institute received a $250,000 grant from the Seaver Institute for its research and curriculum development during this year and 2007. It is the second grant the Mind Institute has received from the Seaver Institute. The Annenberg Foundation also gave the Mind Institute a grant for $75,000 to develop teaching of elementary mathematics through its spatial-temporal approach.

Laguna Beach’s Jordan Property Group held an event at the Montage Resort & Spa Laguna Beach that raised $104,000 for two charities: Annual Fields of Life and Outreach to Africa.

Irvine BMW donated a 2006 BMW 750W Li valued at more than $90,000 to help raise money for the Irvine Unified School District. Proceeds from the raffle went to the district.

Big Boys Men’s Camp, through San Clemente’s Charity for Charities, donated $82,700 to five OC youth mentoring programs: Orangewood Guardian Scholars, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boy Scout’s Leaning for Life, YMCA and Project Access.

Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc., Toshiba America Business Solutions Inc. and Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. donated more than $80,000 in technology equipment to the Partners for Healing clinic as part of “Live with Regis and Kelly’s” 16th annual Mom’s Dream Come True. The Toshiba units gave an ultrasound system, a copier and four PCs. Partners for Healing provides free medical care to middle class working women in Tennessee.

Assistance League of Newport Mesa raised $75,000 at its spring luncheon for its charitable programs. The nonprofit assesses and helps meet the physical, emotional, material and cultural needs of local children.

The first Jog for Jim 5K, held in honor of Newport Beach resident Jim Warsaw, raised $35,000 to benefit the Cure Parkinson’s Program and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research. Warsaw was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1993. He founded the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center at the Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon, a think tank for the sports business.

The 10th annual One Heart at a Time Golf Classic raised more than $33,800 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Orange County Association of Health Underwriters held the event and Orange-based Word & Brown General Agency sponsored it.

The Orange County Museum of Art received a $25,000 grant from Mellon Financial Corp. The money will go toward expanding the museum’s school and tour programs for kindergarten through 12th graders.

DRS Sensors & Targeting Systems Inc. in Cypress, a unit of DRS Technologies Inc., raised $19,058 for the company’s foundation that supports the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. DRS Technologies raised more than $379,740 for the fund. The money will go toward construction of the rehabilitation and advanced training center at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

The Southern California chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties pledged a $10,000 donation to the Building Block Foundation Fund, a nonprofit that brings the real estate community to support at-risk kids in Orange County. The money came from the association’s Night at the Fights event.
