The annual Dux in Tux fundraiser by the Anaheim Ducks hockey team raised more than $280,000 for 28 nonprofits. Guests bid on live auction items, including a goaltending clinic with goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere. More than $125,000 was raised to benefit Ducks Care, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation.

The 17th annual Celebrity Chef Dinner raised $250,000 to fund the Orange Aid Project. The evening recognized 14 chefs committed to providing for the poor in Orange County. The project works with local restaurants and grocery stores and feeds up to 200 families a day through the Share Our Selves Food Pantry.

Doctors, nurses and other volunteers set aside two days to provide free surgeries for charity. The cost of the operations was about $150,000. More than 100 healthcare professionals from Kaiser Permanente and St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton volunteered for the Access OC program. The program provides medical treatment for the uninsured.

Wells Fargo & Co. gave $125,000 to fire relief and recovery efforts in OC. The local American Red Cross received $62,500. Local agencies received $50,000. The Orange County Fire Authority’s community emergency response team program got $12,500. Other recipients were the Fire Authority Benevolent Association, Orange County Animal Care Services and the city of Irvine Animal Care Center.

Volunteers and supporters raised $60,000 at the fourth annual Columbus Day Drive for Special Olympics at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine. AT & T; Inc. was the event’s title sponsor. Gold sponsors were First American Corp., Northwestern Mutual Life Co. and Pharmavite LLC.

The Pimco Foundation, the charitable arm of Pacific Investment Management Co., gave $50,000 to Maternal Outreach Management Systems. The grant will support women’s health services to 2,000 pregnant and parenting women in OC.

Snyder Langston Optym, a unit of Irvine’s Snyder Langston, finished building the Santa Margarita Catholic High School Aquatic Center. The company presented the school with a $10,000 donation at an event celebrating the opening of the aquatic center. The project featured stadium lighting, scoreboards and 150 parking spaces.

Ocean Air Inc. in Tustin gave $5,300 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. Ocean Air matched money that was raised from a charity golf tournament. The money will be used to match adult mentors with children in need. Ocean Air President Joe Rosselet is a Big Brother.

Dentist Scott Rice donated $3,565 to the Irvine Public Schools Foundation and to the Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation. Rice’s office has raised and given more than $25,000 in the Smiles for Life campaign.

Employees from Makar Properties LLC’s Newport Beach headquarters took part in Purpose Day. The day was created to allow employees an opportunity to serve the community. Makar employees spent the day at a Habitat for Humanity project in Anaheim.

LNR Commercial Property Group in Newport Beach joined with the Armed Services YMCA Camp Pendleton to deliver 100 backpacks to children of military families. The backpacks were filled with surfwear, beach towels and movie tickets.

Kia Motors America in Irvine gave 14 company vehicles to the Orange County Fire Authority. The vehicles will be used by the Firefighters Recruit Academy to train firefighters on vehicle extractions and strut device training.

Habitat for Humanity of Orange County received a Nissan Titan truck as part of a one-year, $1 million national partnership with Nissan North America Inc. Nissan will sponsor and build a total of 10 houses with Habitat affiliates and give 10 Titan trucks. Additionally, Nissan will be a sponsor for the 24th annual Jimmy Carter Work Project.

Sole Technology Inc. workers in Lake Forest gave 1,500 pieces of clothing and pairs of shoes to support victims of the Southern California wildfires. Some workers were evacuated from their homes during the October fire and wanted to provide for the needs of their neighbors . The donations were made through United Way.

Irvine employees of MVE & Partners took part in Canstruction, a national event that generated food for the poor and homeless. Using 1,460 cans that were donated to the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, MVE created a 7.5-foot-tall iPod replica dubbed “iPod, iCan.”
