Food Company Being Bought

Cleugh’s Frozen Foods Inc., a Buena Park seller of organic strawberries and other frozen food, is being bought by Canada’s SunOpta Inc. for an undisclosed price.

Cleugh’s, a family-owned business, counts yearly sales of about $65 million. SunOpta is paying cash and assuming debt to acquire Cleugh’s.

SunOpta is based in Norval, Ontario, north of Toronto. Last year, the company had $306 million in revenue. SunOpta makes natural, organic and kosher food sold in the U.S. and Canada.

Canada’s Bronfman family owns about 15% of SunOpta.

Cleugh’s runs a processing plant in Buena Park and another in Salinas.
