Fluor Workers in BP Blast Named

The Galveston County medical examiner released the names of three Fluor Corp. workers killed in last week’s explosion and fire at the BP refinery in Texas City, Texas.

Employees of the engineering services company who were killed in the blast were Rafael Herrera, 27, and Jim Hunnings, 58, both of Baytown, Texas, and Daniel (Danny) Hogan, 58, of Glenmora, La.

The workers were among 15 people killed in the disaster. More than 100 were injured.

“As a company, our hearts go out to the families and friends of our colleagues, as well as to those from other companies, who were lost in this tragedy,” said Alan Boeckmann, chairman and chief executive of Aliso Viejo-based Fluor.

All three men were attending a meeting near the part of the facility involved in the explosion. Fluor has a contract with BP to assist with maintenance at the refining and chemicals site.

Officials from the U.S. Chemical Safety Board were investigating the site Thursday. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also is looking into the blast.
