Fluor Workers Die in BP Blast

Aliso Viejo-based Fluor Corp. said Friday that three of its workers died in Wednesday’s explosion and fire at the BP refinery in Texas City, Texas.

“As a company, our hearts go out to the families and friends of our colleagues, as well as to those from other companies, who were lost in this tragedy,” said Alan Boeckmann, Fluor’s chairman and chief executive officer.

Names of the employees are expected to be released later today by the Galveston County Medical Examiner.

All three men were attending a meeting near the part of the facility involved in the explosion.

Fluor has a contract with BP to assist with maintenance at the refining and chemicals site. Fluor personnel were not working where the accident happened.

Federal investigators are looking into the blast, the refinery’s third fatal one in a year. Fifteen people were killed and 100 people were injured in the explosion.
