Title insurer First American Corp. is buying Pleasanton-based Bar None Inc. as part of its diversification into automotive and other services.
Terms weren’t disclosed.
Bar None prescreens borrowers for auto loans and refers them to dealers. Most have imperfect credit. Last year, Bar None worked with 800,000 borrowers looking to buy a car.
Santa Ana-based First American is best known for title insurance. For the past few years, the company has expanded into a range of data services, including employment background checks and credit reporting for landlords.
Bar None is set to become part of First American’s Credit Information Group.
Jim Crouse, president of Bar None, is expected to stay on. Bar None is set to stay in Pleasanton.
