Fillet Rejoins Roth After Year at CIBC
By RAJIV VYAS
Stephen Fillet has rejoined Newport Beach-based investment bank Roth Capital Partners LLC after a year stint at CIBC World Markets.
Fillet became a managing director at Roth in October after returning from CIBC’s Los Angeles office, where he was executive director of the Internet infrastructure and enhanced data services group.
Fillet, who was a Roth vice president for three years before joining CIBC, said he came back because “I know and like the Roth system as well as all of the key individuals here.”
Earlier this year, CIBC merged its Los Angeles technology practice with one in San Francisco.
Fillet said he wanted stay in Southern California.
“I passed on the opportunity to relocate,” he said.
At Roth, Fillet is set to focus on providing investment banking services to tech and other companies.
He said he plans to work with public companies on private placements, or raising money through private investors rather than the stock market.
Private placements in public companies have been a Roth mainstay during the investment banking downturn.
“Having a CIBC calling card opened a lot of doors for me and allowed me to further develop relationships,” Fillet said. “I plan to further leverage these relationships and contacts to develop a sizable pipeline at Roth.”
