Anaheim-based Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. named Seth Johnson chief operating officer. Johnson will take over as chief executive in April when PacSun Chief Executive Greg Weaver becomes executive chairman to focus on business development. Johnson most recently was chief operating officer of Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (see story, page 1) … Los Angeles-based Maguire Properties Inc. plans to pay $151 million to an affiliate of Seattle-based Washington Mutual Inc. for its 16-acre campus in Irvine. The deal for the four-building complex is set to close next month. Washington Mutual plans to lease back office space from Maguire after the deal closes. Maguire is set to build a 145,270-square-foot, five-story office building on the site.

Irvine-based Microsemi Corp. filed a patent infringement suit against Monolithic Power Systems Inc. Microsemi alleges Monolithic violated four Micro-semi patents related to chips used in computer, TV and other display screens … Santa Ana-based Troy Group Inc. set a Nov. 9 shareholders meeting to consider the sale of the company to Dirk Inc., which plans to take Troy private. Troy founder Patrick Dirk and his family control Dirk Inc. Troy has received but rejected a higher buyout offer from Westar Capital LLC … Santa Ana-based SRS Labs Inc. said Rio Japan licensed its stereo technology for Rio’s new digital audio players … Santa Ana-based Ingram Micro Inc. said Thomas Madden, its chief financial officer since 2001, is retiring in April. Madden plans to teach at the University of California, Irvine’s Graduate School of Management. William Humes, Ingram’s controller, is set to replace Madden … Irvine-based game maker Interplay Entertainment Corp. was allowed to continue trading on the over-the-counter bulletin board after filing its results for the June quarter with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Interplay, part of France’s Titus Interactive SA, said it had a net loss of $2 million in the quarter on revenue of $3.1 million. The company warned that it might not have enough cash to last through the end of the year … Orange-based Am-Pat Inc. paid $60,000 to the Business Software Alliance after the company was found to have unlicensed Microsoft Corp. software on its computers. Am-Pat was one of 24 companies named in the $2.2 million settlement … Costa Mesa-based Experian Information Systems Inc., a unit of Britain’s GUS PLC, said it bought N.Y.-based Simmons Market Research Bureau Inc. for undisclosed terms.


UCI Medical Center said it planned to start construction on its $360 million, 221-bed hospital in spring. High steel prices have caused some changes to the project.


The Orange County Planning Commission approved Rancho Mission Viejo LLC’s 23,000-acre, 14,000-home development near Mission Viejo. Plans now go to the Board of Supervisors, which is set to meet Nov. 8 … Irvine’s Passco Real Estate Enterprises Inc. and 30 others plan to buy the Village at Orange from San Francisco-based Rawson, Blum & Leon for $90.1 million. Rawson spent $57 million remaking the 822,000-square-foot mall, formerly known as the Mall of Orange, after it bought it for $24.2 million two years ago … Developer Hearthside Homes, a unit of Irvine-based California Coastal Communities Inc., withdrew its plan to build 379 homes on the Bolsa Chica mesa. The state Coastal Commission was set to vote on the plan last week, but when approval appeared unlikely, Hearthside said it would negotiate with the commission to solve environmental concerns about the housing development … The Coastal Commission approved a plan to remake the El Morro Village mobile home park into a campground and parkland. Residents of the mobile home community, near Crystal Cove State Park south of Corona del Mar, plan to file a lawsuit preventing their Dec. 31 eviction … Meanwhile, residents of the Dana Point Marina Mobile Home Estates sued the city and Newport Beach-based Makar Properties LLC over their eviction set for June. Makar plans to redevelop the 8.9-acre site at Del Obispo Street and Pacific Coast Highway. Residents say they weren’t offered affordable housing alternatives.

The KOCE Foundation said it had raised a down payment of $8 million to buy PBS affiliate KOCE-TV Channel 50 from Coast Community College District. The license transfer is expected to take place by Nov. 4. The $28 million sale of the station has been contested by Dallas religious broadcaster Daystar Television.


New Zealand’s Fisher & Paykel Appliance Holdings Ltd. bought Dynamic Cooking Systems Inc. of Huntington Beach for about $33 million. Both companies make high-end appliances. Dynamic Cooking had sales of more than $100 million last year.
