Irvine-based Endocare Inc. and Sanarus Medical Inc. of Pleasantion have filed applications with the Food and Drug Administration for clearance to market systems for the diagnosis and treatment of breast tumors.
In October 1999, Sanarus Medical and Endocare entered into a strategic alliance to commercialize Endocare’s proprietary cryosurgical and ultrasound guidance technology in the diagnosis and treatment of breast tumors and gynecological diseases.
The companies recently filed an application for the Sanarus Core Tissue Biopsy System, a minimally invasive biopsy system for lesions of the breast that utilizes cryothermia, or cold temperatures to engage and remove the target tissue samples.
