The dollar gained against the euro and yen on Friday, after a report showed a narrower-than-expected U.S. trade deficit in April and a revised improvement in the March shortfall.
By early morning, the euro dropped to around $1.2192 according to Reuters data from around $1.2230 shortly before the data and down about 0.2% from levels late on Thursday in New York. The euro then recovered to $1.2220.
