Dana Point Marriott Starts On Spa
The Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point last week broke ground on a new 14,000-square-foot spa expected to open in July 2003.
The $8 million spa will include 10 treatment rooms as well as a fitness center, classes and outdoor spa services. A special spa menu will be available through room service.
General manager Jeroen Gerrese said a spa is a necessity to remain competitive in today’s resort hotel market.
“It used to be a 3-ounce bar of soap in the room made you a luxury hotel,” he said. “Today, it doesn’t matter what size soap you have, if you don’t have a spa, you’re not competitive.”
The Laguna Cliffs Marriott completed a $7.5 million renovation of guest rooms and public areas in 2001 and this year completed the renovation of its meeting space, including the addition of a computer controlled multimedia center.
Gerrese said the addition of the spa will bring the total renovation investment to about $20 million.
