Newport Beach chipmaker Conexant Systems Inc. said Monday it’s adding two directors to its board, one of them a Western Digital Corp. veteran.
William Bendush and Matthew Massengill are set to join Conexant’s board.
Bendush is set to be chairman of the audit committee and will sit on the governance and composition committee.
Most recently, he was chief financial officer at Sunnyvale-based Applied Micro Circuits Corp.
Before that, he was financial chief at Aliso Viejo-based SiliconSystems Inc. for 15 years.
Bendush sits on the board of Irvine-based chipmaker Microsemi Corp.
Massengill also will sit on the governance and composition committee and on the compensation and management development committee.
He spent 22 years at Lake Forest disk drive maker Western Digital, most recently as chairman of the board and chief executive.
Massengill was chief executive of Western Digital from 2000 until late 2005. He stepped down to make way for Arif Shakeel in early 2006, who stayed on the job for a year.
Shakeel was succeeded by current Chief Executive John Coyne, who before was president and chief operating officer.
Massengill has board posts at Western Digital and Irvine-based Microsemi Corp.
The other members of Conexant’s board are Steven Bilodeau, Chairman Dwight Decker, F. Craig Farrill, Balakrishnan Iyer, Chief Executive D. Scott Mercer and Jerre Stead.
Conexant’s upper ranks saw a big shake-up this year.
Last year, Conexant hired Dan Artusi, a veteran of Motorola Inc.’s chip arm, who stayed for about nine months as chief executive.
He’s said to have been ousted by the board in April after clashes with directors over the pace and scope of a big restructuring effort.
Now the job is in the hands of Mercer, who’s been on Conexant’s board for five years.
He’s had stints at some big names, including Western Digital.
Conexant had a recent market value of about $300 million.
