Churm Publishing Inc., Newport Beach, publisher OC Metro and OC Family magazines, is expanding its readership with the acquisition of Santa Ana-based Golf Media Group, publisher of Orange County Golf, Los Angeles County Golf and San Diego County Golf.
Steve Churm, owner of Churm Publishing, has a controlling interest in the resulting Churm Publishing Golf Group. The golf magazines’ founders, Rob Lyon and Eric Marson, will be associate publishers managing the editorial aspects of the three monthly golf magazines whose combined circulation is 75,000 copies.
During the past year, two new magazines have debuted targeting local golf enthusiasts, one published by Freedom Communications Inc. in Irvine and the other by Fairway Media Group Inc. in Santa Ana.
“It’s great that there is competition. We are aware of it, but not bothered by it,” said Churm. He added that his other publications may tap the golf group’s distribution channels in Los Angeles and San Diego.
The company, which now has eight titles, also publishes Inland Empire Family and Las Vegas Family magazines, as well as the dining guide Metro Menus.
