Chapman University said Thursday that the Jerrold and Jacqueline Glass Foundation gave $6 million to build housing and fund a couple of academic positions.
Jerrold A. Glass, who passed away in 2003, was the founder of Irvine-based Western National Group, a 43-year old apartment owner, manager and developer. His wife still is living.
Western National ranked No. 20 on the Business Journal’s list of privately held companies. It has annual revenue of $425 million and roughly 1,100 workers.
Chapman University officials said the gift will fund construction of the Jerrold and Jacqueline Glass Residence Hall, the Jerrold A. Glass Chair in Finance and the Jacqueline M. Glass Chair in Theatre and Music.
The gift was the fifth-largest ever for Chapman University.
Western National manages more than 23,000 apartments and owns roughly 13,000 of them.
With OC holdings of about 10,000 apartments, Western National is the second-largest apartment owner here behind The Irvine Company.
