Bernanke Named Fed Chief

President Bush has nominated Ben Bernanke, his top economic adviser and a leading member of the Federal Reserve fraternity, to succeed Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan.

Greenspan, who has led the U.S. central bank for 18 years, must leave his post by Jan. 31.
