Another Toshiba company has its U.S. headquarters, albeit a small one, in Irvine.
Toshiba Teli Corp., a maker of video cameras for industrial uses, has opened its first U.S. unit in Irvine. The company shares its name with Toshiba Corp. but isn’t formally part of the Tokyo-based electronics maker, which has three subsidiaries in Irvine and another in Tustin.
Toshiba Teli, also based in Tokyo, split from Toshiba Corp. in 1950.
The Irvine office of Toshiba Teli America Inc. houses sales, engineering, service and warehousing operations.
The operation has just five workers now. That could grow to 15 in the next year, according to the company.
Toshiba Teli makes cameras used in factory automation and by scientists and engineers, among others.
Doug Freck, who has been with Toshiba Teli for 22 years, is heading up the Irvine office.
