Activision Blizzard Settles Gender Bias Suit for $18M

Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq: ATVI), parent company of video game maker Blizzard Entertainment of Irvine, said it had reached a settlement of a sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit filed against the company by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for $18 million.

The Santa Monica-based company said the money would be used to “compensate and make amends” to eligible female employees.

Activision, which is behind such hits as “Call of Duty” and “World of Warcraft,” said it would “further strengthen policies and programs to prevent harassment and discrimination in the company’s workplace.”

The agreement is subject to court approval.

Activision Blizzard is also facing workplace discrimination probes from the Securities and Exchange Commission and California state officials.

Shares in Activision Blizzard rose 1.5% to $76.21 apiece for a market cap of $59.4 billion after the agreement was announced.
