Santa Ana-based Powerwave Technologies Inc., a maker of amplifiers for wireless phone networks, said it turned a first-quarter profit versus a loss a year ago, thanks to recent acquisitions.
The company posted a profit of $5.4 million, compared to a loss of $3.3 million a year ago.
Powerwave did even better taking out $4 million in acquisition charges and another one-time item, reporting operating income of $10.4 million.
Revenue more than doubled to $162.2 million.
Powerwave got a boost from LGP Allgon Holding AB, a maker of gear that improves coverage on wireless networks it bought last year.
Another acquisition Kaval Wireless, bought earlier this year, also helped results, Powerwave said.
The company has another deal pending: a $120 million offer for products and plants from Del Mar-based Remec Inc.
Powerwave plans to buy Remec’s radio frequency conditioning products, filters and amplifiers. The deal also includes Remec’s factories in Costa Rica, China and the Philippines.
In 2003, Powerwave closed a Santa Ana plant and moved production to plants in Asia.
