A good quarterly report and a deal with Toshiba buoy QLogic

QLogic Corp., an Aliso Viejo provider of infrastructure for storage area networks, last week announced the integration of its fibre channel adapters into network servers at Irvine-based Toshiba America Information Systems Inc.

QLogic’s products control the flow of data among storage systems, tape libraries and network servers. The Toshiba unit has annual sales of approximately $2.5 billion. It manufactures, markets and services business and information-oriented products in the U.S. and Latin America.

Also last week, QLogic announced that revenue for its second fiscal quarter rose to a record $87.6 million (see Earnings column on page 30).

The day after the contract and financial results were announced, the company’s shares opened at 79 1/2, up sharply from their close of 70 7/8 the day before.

The company has 353 employees in Orange County, and plans to accelerate hiring, according to a company spokesperson.

Companies using QLogic products include Compaq, Fujitsu, Hitachi, IBM, Siemens and Sun Microsystems.
