South Coast Plaza is awakening from a quiet two months with a new curbside program, called SCP 2 Go, launching Friday.
The Costa Mesa upscale shopping center has coordinated the curbside pick-up process across participating tenants with a streamlined service offering. Customers contact a participating retailer or restaurant. The companies notify shoppers when an order is ready and give them one of five color-coded locations around the center to drive to for pick up. Parking spaces will be numbered at each location.
The program officially begins Friday at 11 a.m. and includes more than 70 businesses. It operates Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
SCP 2 Go is one way the upscale shopping center is getting back out in front of consumers, following the state’s shelter-in-place order that shuttered non-essential businesses roughly two months ago in response to COVID-19.
Retailers have since been allowed to reopen more recently in the state with curbside pickup only.
Malls are still officially closed to foot traffic. New guidelines from the state outlined a more detailed how-to protocol for reopening the centers when restrictions lift.
Shopping centers, once reopened, would be limited to capacities of no more than 50%, with security expected to help enforce social distancing. Children’s play areas would be closed off, employee breakrooms moved outdoors and there would be frequent cleaning required with EPA-approved products.
