Register Redesigns Website

Southern California News Group redesigned its Orange County Register website for, it says, “cleaner presentation, simplified navigation, enhanced functionality, and greater interactivity for sharing and commenting on stories.”

It’s “based on how people have been using ocregister.com and brings additional accessibility to the type of content they’re searching for,” said Toni Sciacqua, managing editor of digital at Southern California News Group.

New design elements include article pages with smartphone users in mind, from typography to article summaries; large links that are easier to use on touchscreens; separate tabs for news that pertains to north OC and south OC; a “things to do” tab, and a new commenting platform that allows real-time discussions and threaded replies, ‘upvotes,’ ‘downvotes’ and ‘recommends.’

An updated Orange County Register app is planned for later this month, the news group said.
