Surfer Magazine, owned by San Clemente-based TEN: Action/Outdoor Group, has partnered with Red Digital Cinema Camera Co. in Irvine to put on REDirect Surf 2015.
The film competition providers 12 surf photographers with 6K Red Dragon cameras. Their goal: one “Best Moment in Time,” a still photo pulled from their video footage; and a “Best Highlight Reel,” a short surf film.
The winner gets to keep the gear, which is valued at $50,000.
All 12 films will be showcased on Surfermag.com and Red.com, where viewers will have a chance to cast a vote for their favorite.
“We are unbelievably excited to be rolling out the second series of REDirect with Surfer,” said Red Digital’s Jamin Jannard, son of founder Jim Jannard. “The amount of talent in this competition is absolutely incredible, and we can’t wait to see what they do with Dragon in their hands.”

Oakley branding will also be seen throughout the resort, “both on the mountain and in retail shops in the village,” along with a large digital display that will “recommend the correct eyewear for the day’s conditions,” according to resort officials.
“Whistler Blackcomb is key in the development of so many Oakley international athletes,” Alexandre Langevin, Oakley Canada marketing director, said in a news release. “Our objective is to provide the best brand experience to consumers in this sporting mecca.”
Financial details of the deal weren’t disclosed.
