Los Angeles Times Community News, based in Fountain Valley, announced today that it will launch a website and email newsletter devoted to Orange County starting July 6.
The site will feature Orange County articles produced by the OC bureau of the Los Angeles Times and the various Times Community News publications, such as the Daily Pilot and Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot.
The website will be at TimesOC.com. The articles will be edited by Times Community News editors in Orange County. TimesOC.com will be free for 60 days. After that readers must have a print or digital subscription.
For the newsletter, readers will be able to sign up for a free, five-day-a-week email blast.
Times Community News Executive Editor John Canalis said the announcement is not related to Denver-based Digital First Media acquiring the Orange County Register, and its sister publication, through a bankruptcy auction earlier this year.
“I’ve been wanting to put all of our coverage, for the whole county, together in one place since I started in 2010,” Canalis said. “This is really the digital companion to the Weekend section we launched just over a year ago. The response to that section has been overwhelmingly positive, and we wanted to do more.”
Weekend, which provides lifestyle and entertainment coverage to all print and digital subscribers in Orange County, launched a year ago and is showing a profit, Canalis said.
The site is also for advertisers who want to reach an Orange County-focused digital audience, said Marissa Contreras, O.C. advertising director for The Times and TCN, adding that dedicated sponsors will support the site and newsletter.
