Costa Mesa-based PBS SoCal KOCE is one of five public stations that’s been awarded a grant by Washington, D.C.-based The Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The grant of approximately $700,000 will establish a regional news collaboration for coverage of sustainability issues, according to PBS SoCal.
PBS SoCal’s portion is $75,800 and it will match that with $127,000 from local fundraising efforts over the next two years, according to a PBS SoCal spokeswoman. The grant from the national headquarters is an initial investment for an ongoing initiative, she added.
The partnership, made up of public television and radio stations in western cities, including Phoenix and Denver, will produce multimedia reports on four sustainability issues: water, energy, climate change and urbanization.
