Chipmaker Microsemi Corp. in Aliso Viejo is part of a consortium of investors putting $18.7 million into an Irvine startup spun out of General Electric’s Global Research Center.
Other backers in Menlo Micro include GE Ventures, Corning and Paladin Capital Group.
The company has been developing what it calls Digital-Micro-Switch technology, which aims to improve the fundamental building blocks of electronic systems by increasing electrical performance and power handling, among other functions.
The switches are targeting networks, industrial Internet of Things markets, battery management, home automation, electronic vehicles and medical instrumentation.
