Ingram Micro to Distribute Microsoft Goggles

Irvine-based technology wholesale distributor Ingram Micro Inc. will market, sell and support the Microsoft HoloLens 2 mixed-reality headset globally, starting in North America.

Mixed reality refers to the integration of virtual and augmented reality technologies. The device lets users “view, move, speak to and interact with 3-D holograms,” a Bloomberg report earlier this year said.

A HoloLens 2 runs $3,500, according to Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft. The electronics giant is aiming at applications such as training factory workers or helping architects design buildings, the news agency said. B2B uses of virtual-, augmented- and mixed-reality goggles have grown faster than consumer adoption of the units.

Ingram Micro is the world’s largest wholesale distributor of computer and technology products, shipping software and other products to a network of nearly 300,000 resellers worldwide.
