Costa Mesa-based technical ceramic products company Ceradyne Inc. has received the second of two orders for its enhanced combat helmet, valued at about $3.9 million.
The first order was received in March, worth about $3 million.
Ceradyne is expecting a full-production order in the second quarter, which would be more than $170 million.
The company makes ceramic-based body armor and other products for the defense, commercial and industrial markets.
The initial-production orders for the enhanced combat helmet are expected to be shipped to the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army in the second quarter of 2012.
“We anticipate meeting the government’s performance, quality and delivery requirements with this order and look forward to meeting all of the requirements of full-rate production in the near future,” said David Reed, president of North American operations.
The company recently posted first quarter results that fell short of expectations. It had $106 million in revenue, down 29% from a year earlier. Profit totaled $3.8 million, down 84%.
