Unemployment Inches Up, Jobs Down

Orange County’s unemployment rate continued to inch up in August to 4.2%, up from 4.1% in July and 3.9% in June.

A year earlier, the county’s unemployment rate was 3.6%, according to the state’s Employment Development Department.

OC had slightly fewer workers in August, 1,569,200, versus July and August 2006.

Employment was off less than a percent from July and August 2006.

For the year through August, the county’s yearly job growth is about a fifth of a percent, according to Ann Marshall, labor market analyst with the Employment Development Department.
